Idiom of the week: To be in the spotlight

Some people enjoy it, others dread it. Sometimes we deliberately pursue it, but sometimes we just happen to be there and can't escape from it. What about you? Do you enjoy being in the spotlight?

According to www.wordreference.com/, a spotlight (/ˈspɒtˌlaɪt/) is 'a powerful light focused so as to illuminate a small area, usually mounted so that it can be directed at will'.

With this definition in mind, it's easy to guess that, if you are in the spotlight, you're getting everyone's attention. How does that sound? Are you the kind who loves it or hates it?

Apart from people, things can be in the spotlight too -objects, discussion topics, arguments, news, quotes... Probably, this idiom is the older brother of Twitter's "trending topic".
